"I have explained the current status of development works to both the Chief Ministers. Development was paralysed in Andhra Pradesh (before its bifurcation) because of the political turmoil. We have to now put things back on track," Venkaiah Naidu said.

President Pranab Mukherjee Monday extended his greetings to fellow citizens on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which will be celebrated Tuesday.

”On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend warm greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens, particularly to my Muslim brothers and sisters in India and abroad,” Mukherjee said in a statement.

“As we celebrate this day which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, I hope that the festival with its tradition of giving and sharing enriches our lives with a spirit of brotherhood and empathy for the deprived,” he said. The president hoped that the festival will “reinforce the nation’s commitment to mutual harmony and radiate the message of India’s composite culture to the whole world”.

Muslims in Bangalore today held a peaceful protest to condemn Israel's attacks on Palestine that does not even spare women and children.


They also criticised the United Nations and America for what they alleged " turning a blind eye" towards the ongoing crisis.


"We just want to ask the UN to take a stringent action against the terror which is happening; the cruelty, the massacre that is happening in Gaza by Israel. I want to ask a question to UN, what is UN doing? What is America doing? America is called a superpower and when America is called a superpower, then what is America doing in this case? Why are these people silent," said state president for Human Rights Council of India, Mohammad Farman.


International calls for a ceasefire have grown as the death toll has mounted in the worst flare-up of Israeli-Palestinian violence in almost two years, sparked by the murder of three Israeli teenagers and revenge killing of a Palestinian youth.


Meanwhile, protesters are demanding a boycott of Israel and shutdown of the country's embassies and consulates in India.


"We demand that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President of India and the External Affairs Minister should condemn the Israeli occupation and condemn Israeli operation in the strongest of terms. We also demand that the Israeli embassies and Israeli consulates should be closed," said a protester, Amir Ali Badani.

Israel began air strikes on the coastal strip on July 08, saying it wanted to halt missile fire from Gaza by Hamas militants and launched a ground offensive last Thursday.


The number of Palestinian deaths in the 18 days of conflict has been put at 822, most of them civilians.

Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit visited Jama Masjid at the invitation of Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari and had Iftar there.


Addressing the congregation after the Maghrib prayer, the Pakistan High Commissioner underlined the unique spirit of Islam which was universal and embedded in love, peace and justice for all.


He said that the Holy month of Ramadan was a special occasion for all Muslims as it provided a great opportunity for introspection and correction both individually and collectively.


Basit conveyed to Indian Muslims felicitations on behalf of the people of Pakistan and wished them Eid greetings in advance.


Talking about Pakistan-India relations, Basit said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was committed to normalisation of relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest.


He hoped that with the resumption of bilateral dialogue things would move forward in all areas as articulated by the two Prime Ministers in their meeting in New Delhi on May 27.


Earlier, welcoming the High Commissioner, Imam Bukhari also hoped for better relations between Pakistan and India. He also commended Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his visit to New Delhi during which he also visited the Jama Masjid.


This was the first time that a High Commissioner for Pakistan was invited for Iftar at the Jama Masjid and addressed the congregation.


The High Commissioner was warmly greeted by the people attending Maghrib prayer. He also mingled with the public and responded them by shaking hands.


Basit was accompanied by Obaid ur Rahman Nizamani, Head of Chancery and Manzoor Ali Memon, Press Counselor of the High Commission.

It was a joyous moment for the hundreds of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community members when they held the fifth Kerala queer parade pride march in Kochi to assert their rights.

The march was organised by the Queer Pride Keralam Group, which includes Queerala (a support group for the LGBT community, their friends and family) and Sahayathrika (a Human Rights Organisation for Lesbian and Bisexual women in Kerala) and others from the previous pride marches.

A protester who took part in the pride said, "The march is for our self- pride . We want to show the world that we are proud of what we are. We want to protect the sexual minority. Family is the first hurdle. The try to convert to you thinking it is sin to be gay."

A woman present at the protest also said, "I am from USA and I am here to support LGBT community. It is my first time here. It is the same struggle everywhere."

Kochi is holding the parade for the first time, as most of the times it used to take place in Thrissur District, but the venue was selected with the request of the members.

The parade was flagged off from High Court Junction and concluded at the Rajendra Maidan.
The parade was followed by a public meeting to deliberate on harassment and persecution of LGBT people by different institutions including law enforcement agencies. (ANI)

In its efforts to develop and promote new tourist places in the state, the Jammu and Kashmir government has constructed a new public park in Dandipora village in district Anantnag .

This park, which has been constructed by the tourism department to lure tourists, is situated between the two famous tourist destinations Kokernag and Daksum.

The tourism department had developed this park on waste land near a stream. The place has already become famous among the locals and sees an average of 3000 souls visiting this place every day.

Khursheed Ahmed, CEO, Kokernag Development Authority, said, "We have made a park in Dandipora and we are developing two other parks. This has been done so that it becomes a great tourist destination. We have spent about Rs 2 crores on this."

The place has also become a hotspot for school kids as a picnic destination. The tourism department has kept every facility including a restaurant, a wash room and a pool in this park.

A local man, Nazir Ahmed, told ANI, "This park was not developed at all earlier but now it's been developed and people are coming over here from far off places. But it still needs a little more development so that people come from all over. Even the casual labourers who are working here must be helped by the government."

The locals, who often spend their quality time in this park have hailed this step of the state government and are hopeful that it will generate many employment resources in that area. (ANI)

Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat won the Dharchula Assembly seat with a margin of 20604 votes on Friday.

Rawat, who took charge as the eighth chief minister of Uttarakhand on Febraury 1, 2014, will complete six months of his tenure on July 31.

Constitutionally, it is mandatory for Rawat to be elected as a Congress MLA from an assembly seat within six months from the date he took charge as the CM to continue on the post.

Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has come out in support of BJP leaders who are opposing tennis star Sania Mirza's appointment as Telangana's brand ambassador because she is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
