Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat won the Dharchula Assembly seat with a margin of 20604 votes on Friday.
Rawat, who took charge as the eighth chief minister of Uttarakhand on Febraury 1, 2014, will complete six months of his tenure on July 31.
Constitutionally, it is mandatory for Rawat to be
elected as a Congress MLA from an assembly seat within six months from
the date he took charge as the CM to continue on the post.
Rawat defeated BJP's BD Joshi in a direct fight between the Congress and BJP. Rawat polled over 30,000 votes.
