Mahela Jayawardene scored his 34th test century to put Sri Lanka in control on 305 for five at stumps on the first day of the second test against South Africa in Colombo.
Both spin bowlers needed control and customarily permitted a limit to
be scored in every over. They couldn't satisfy the holding part and
Amla permitted the diversion to float. South Africa lost force and Sri
Lanka picked up the power.

Jayawardene will continue on 140 on Friday. Sri Lanka will be
the more satisfied group after the first day's play. Jayawardene
confronted 225 balls and hit sixteen fours and a six. Amid the course of
his innings, he supplanted Kumar Sangakkara as Sri Lanka's heading
run-scorer in tests.
The SA quick bowlers, and especially Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander, bowled brilliantly all through the day.philander completed with 0 for 33 in sixteen overs, while Morkel caught one for 42 in sixteen overs. Steyn seized out 2 for 55 in 15 overs. South Africa basically played an excess of limit balls and Imran Tahir's insufficiency in these conditions (0/92 in 24 overs) remains a real concern.
