A film that breaks with Bollywood and delivers an atypical sip of social realism that left a heading actor feeling vexed during sharpened is India’s usually contender during this season’s Cannes festival.
“Titli”, by Kanu Behl, that tackles a family assault and bad diagnosis of women that corrupt Indian society, is one of 19 films competing in a ‘Un Certain Regard’ difficulty for rising directors, with prizes to be handed out on Friday.
Behl’s initial underline as executive follows a still and cold Titli – ‘butterfly’ in Hindi – who is unfortunate to mangle from his all-male family of car-jackers vital in a suburban dive though finds each exit blocked and each dream destroyed.
“It is for me a film that takes on a Holy Grail of Indian cinema, that is a family, and says ‘Hey look! There’s all this function and because aren’t we articulate about it?’” Behl, who had formerly worked on documentaries, told Reuters TV.
