According to Aceshowbiz, Chief content officer for Cartoon Network, Rob
Scorcher, made the announcement on Monday, June 16, at the 2014
Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
“The original ‘Powerpuff Girls’ was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide,” Scorcher said, adding that “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”
Other people in the network's management spoke highly of the cartoon they credit with introducing the concept of “Girl Power” (although the Spice Girls might have a trademark on that), pointing out that when the cartoon first came out, it appealed to a wide range of people, not just children of a specific age.
