The first trailer for Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit The Battle of Five Armies” has arrived, five months ahead of its Dec. 17 opening.
The trailer, touting the movie as “the defining chapter of the Middle-Earth Saga,” starts with Martin Freeman’s Bilbo setting the stage for the final battle by saying that future generations will “remember the good, the bad, those who survived, and those who didn’t.”
The two-minute trailer includes snippets of preparation for battle by the armies, followed by several fast-paced fight scenes and concludes with Richard Armitage’s Thorin asking, “Will you follow me one last time?”
The final “Hobbit” movie was featured as a significant component of Warner Bros.’ panel at Comic-Con on Saturday along with the first preview of the trailer. The Hobbit’s Facebook page also included some preview footage prior to the trailer’s release.
The two Hobbit films have grossed nearly $2 billion combined at the worldwide box office for New Line and MGM.
