Director
Ram delivered a bold speech at the Star Vijay Awards function that was
held on July 5. At the event, Ram had pointed out that the music
director of his Thanga Meenkal, Yuvan Shankar Raja, hadn't even been
nominated in the Best Music Composer category in Vijay Awards.
Ram's Thangameengal swept the Best Tamil Film, while the film also received the National award for Best lyrics for the song 'Ananda Yaazhai Meettugirai' written by Na.Muthukumar and the Best Child Artist award for Sadhana and Shelly in the film.
The acclaimed directed made it amply evident that he was displeased with the selection process followed by the channel to select the winners of Vijay Awards. He went on to hand over the Best Film Award to Yuvan for being the backbone of Thanga Meenkal.
Many expected the channel to chop off Ram's bold speech, which went viral over the Internet, during the telecast of the Awards programme. But to everyone's surprise, the channel didn't delete Ram's speech portions but modified his speech in such a manner that it distorted the story completely.
After the first part of the award function was telecast yesterday, audiences who had witnessed the event live are thrashing the channel on social networking sites for changing the story completely. After watching the show on TV last evening, producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri tweeted, "Watching Vijay awards now on TV... so much drama... They just proved media can be so effective.... kadayaye maateeteengale pa... super."
The channel not only edited director Ram's speech but also added their clips appreciating Ram for expressing his views and also encouraged other filmmakers to be open about their views, if they had any. This was to give the audiences an impression that the award winners had been chosen in a fair manner.
